Its always lovely to receive feedback and even nicer when its unexpected!
I work with Departure (Arts in Education in Dorset - http://www.dorsetforyou.com/departurearts ) who have been brilliant at circulating Little Green Fingers to local schools.
They forwarded this from a recent schools workshop - felt making is great fun and I'm glad to inspire teachers and staff to try out some new things.

Lady birds from St James!

If you can, pop into Stewarts to see the lovely display of children's work from our school project, Little Green Fingers. Stewarts landscaping supplied the pebbles for painting which look great! I love the pebble lady birds in the artificial grass!

Felted flower meadows for Walford Mill Craft Centre

This beautiful felt flower meadow was created by the children of St James Primary, Gaunts Common, Wimborne. Stewarts Garden Centre funded both the materials and the workshop artist facilitator, Nina Squire, as part of their art education program, Little Green Fingers, which aims to educate children in the benefit of encouraging wildlife and improve our environment through growing. The finished felt panel has been donated to Walford Mill Craft Centre to raise valuable funds for their new building project. Felt making at All saints Guides Group in Poole.

We've been working with local guide groups to create felted wall hangings. It was a great team activity and the kids loved the felt flower meadows and all wanted to do some more!

Flower meadows at St Ives First School

We made fabulous felted flower panels after looking at pictures of the flower meadow designed by Stewarts Garden Centre at the New Forest Show for inspiration. The kids and teachers learnt a new skill and these panels will be a great display when they dry.

Friendship poles for St Johns.

I've been working with St Johns In Wimborne to make outdoor art that celebrates the friends and fun they have in school. We're looking forward to seeing the finished pieces outside in their newly designed garden. Lovely hanging baskets for Durweston School

The fantastic kids at Durweston loved our green theme last year. They grew things to flower and eat too and even sold their plants at the summer fair. They even made some hanging baskets too. Stewarts also helped them buy a green house after they won prize for thier great displays giving them enough money to add to thier already great green area.
I love this collage of one of their hanging baskets. What a great creative result!
We're just planning some new workshops, I'm looking forward to visiting again!

Little Green Fingers 2011

We're very excited about our next set of workshops. We've got a new budget for art materials and are already planning workshops covering Eco themes, colourful banners and flags, Olympic cultures, recycling and green growing, felt making, sculpture and silk painting.
Our first workshop outing was in St Georges, Portland where Nina helped the design flags with reception around the theme of Dorset's long connection with pirates and our trading on the seas! It was great fun and the children's paintings were fantastic!

This fantastic butterfly was produced by one of my students on a piece of paper stretched 20 years ago! It's never to late to start art again! Stewarts has a great room with fantastic facilities for pastel workshops for beginners and experienced artists.

Clay workshops on Portland.

Our artist in residence has been off to Portland working with Yr 2 children in St Georges Primary to produce textured tiles for a school project. The children drew details from a local church and produced tiles that will be displayed as a tiled panel.

Pastel classes in the Phoenix Centre.

My pastel classes has a range of students, there are beginners and experienced artists, they've all been encouraged to develop their own styles and subject interests. These are a great composition from Gilly, who started paste painting with me a couple of years ago. Great pastelling, Gilly!

We've been working with felt provided by Stewarts Garden Centre, to make flower meadows, we've looked at different artists to get some inspiration including Van Gogh and Monet. These iris's look fantastic!

Artist in residence at Stourfields Junior School

I was lucky enough to be selected to work as artist in residence with Stourfield Junior as part of The Mermaid Princess project with Poole Lighthouse. I was asked to design a wall hanging with the children that responded to the Italian theatre company, Teatro Kismet, production of The Mermaid Princess. The children enjoyed the production and wanted to make a beautiful mermaid with a shoal of recycled fish alongside which was displayed with a beautiful woven background on an old fishing net. It was much bigger than we first thought it would be as the children loved weaving the net with the different materials to create the background – it just kept growing! The final product looked fantastic and far exceeded my initial ideas, the children added so much more than I could I have ever imagined, their enthusiasm was amazing! If you get the chance to see it pop in, it’s on display along with other art products from other local artists from tomorrow until the middle of September.

Manor Park School Arts Week

Little Green Fingers Art Projects took silk painting to year 3 and 4 with Stewarts funding. The children worked together to make some lovely silk panels. We made 15 over three days! The children were fantastic at working together and designing the panels.

St Joseph's recycled wall hanging

B and Q in Christchurch and Stewarts Garden Centre helped fund this lovely mural to brighten up the courtyard and help educate children about recycling and it's importance to the enviroment. The children are also growing sweet peas which will climb through the hanging rather like seaweed!

Pastel flower meadow at Hillview Primary School

Nina has been working with Hillview to make a collage out of the childrens pastel flowers as part of the terms growing theme. Nina showed the children how to use the pastels and these were the results! These flowers are nearly as colourful as the ones at Stewarts!

Stewarts are supporting local school children’s environmental awareness through the Little Green Fingers art workshops run by local artist Nina Squire. Nina was Artist in residence at St Johns First School, Wimborne during Environment Week. Working with things from Dorset Scrap Store the children and Nina created a flower meadow mural by weaving scrap materials through a fence in the school grounds. A great way of making use of wasted materials, helping children understand recycling and appreciating the environment around them.
